Ice flakes in vodka? I recently picked up a bottle of Hammer & Sickle vodka for the coming break. I used some once or twice before I brought it home. I used it last night and it was fine. Today however when I poured a shot there were ice flakes in most of the bottle. The only thing I can think of is someone watered it down but I don't believe anyone here would do that. |
Freezer going out? My friend froze his vodka when his fridge broke. |
Can the water in vodka freeze? |
maybe you kept it real close to the engine/generator/whateveritis part of the freezer? My cousin had a bottle of tequila that he only drank out of once, no one else took any and it had some ice flakes in it too. dunno. google is your friend :) |
Lol, I've never seen vodka freeze. I've seen beer explode in the freezer, but I've never seen hard alcohol freeze. |
Ya same thing happens to mine I think. I wanna say that once you open the bottle and air gets into it that will happen because of humidity? Or at least that makes since to me. |
It depends on the mixture of water and other additives and ethanol alcohol content. I think ethanol alcohol freezes at -100° or lower, but the higher the water content, the higher the freezing point. Solutions also freeze gradually, with ice particles forming as you lower in temperature. |
If your door doesn't close properly - happened to me one night after drinking some amount of booze!! |
two possible things i can think of. the vodka is below 80 proof after drinking some, there was space in the bottle for the water already present in the booze to freeze |
is it 70 proof? when I get flavored whiskey it will start to freeze in the back of my freezer. Unopened and everything. |
