Why the hell does the weasle go POP and why are we singing nursery rhymes to kids about exploding weasles?

according to a few different sources it originated in the U.K. and it's a cockney thing. Riddled with old as dirt slang that would have no real meaning today.

This was the least time consuming explanation to read.

That is by far the best one I've ever come across. My aunt gave a book of old nursery rhymes to my daughter a few years ago. They are all twisted and demented.

I think a lot of them were meant to scare kids into behaving. they were boogieman stories. For example, in the original story Hansel and Grettle got eaten. Lesson=don't go into the woods kids.
