They don't work so well at high speeds, from what I understand.

Michelin worked on those or a parralel project for street tires. they were pretty darn cool. rubber tread on a urethane core.

Edit It was the tweel program. i had to google it lol. been a longmtime since i worked there. that picture is a micjelin tweel. they appear to have them for all sorts of applications.

I remember about 20yrs ago seeing an airless spare tire on the tv show "Beyond Tomorrow".
I thought it was a cool concept.
It's interesting to see other manufacturers are looking into it further.
