Off road lights

Hey gang,

I want some lights on the front of my truck, and I found these. They say Hella on them, but appear to be Optilux brand? Are they any good? I REALLY like the price, and the reviews seem to be good on them.

Thanks!

EDIT: I also found these. I've heard of Rugged Ridge, too, but I don't know much about them.

Bite the price bullet and get Hellas or another good brand. Rugged Ridge is OK, but they're Chinese-made knockoffs.

I guess I'll head to AutoZone and get the 2 KC Daylighters for $110, then.

I've always bought Hella and had great luck with them. Helped the Factory-return shop was down the street from my office which had some killer deals.

Another bonus to the higher-end brands...optics. Yes you can throw a 100W bulb in a housing and get a bunch of light going everywhere but proper optics will put light where it is needed without wasting it lighting curbs.

These are $60-ish. Awesome lights, at least when they get them back in stock

How bright are they? I've heard 55w leave something to be desired. That's why I've been looking at 100w ones. If I can just get a 100w bulb and put in there, that'd be great.

Also, how bright would a 18w LED light be? 4.5" is a little smaller than what I want, but the smaller the light the more I can fit on the light bar across the front of the truck. Opinions?

EDIT: Or a bit bigger 27w light?

If you want 100W, make sure you have an alternator with suitable output. most factory alt's only output around 80W and you still have to run all the supporting systems. If you are worried that 50W won't be enough, you really won't be happy with the LED lights. they are bright and white, but they don't carry the distance a pencil beam will. I have had good experience with Hella, PIAA, and KC in the past, but I would recommend KC's, they rate high on the bang for the buck scale. More than likely you will be happy with the 50W.

I was by no means saying I wouldn't be happy with 55w, I've just heard they aren't that bright. If they will do the job, I'm fine with it. I'm going to have 4 of them on the front of the truck, anyway. :P
