So I couldn't contract you to build these? ![]() ![]() Purple heart is not cheap, don't want to have to many test runs. Easiest to do a box with a applied front. It does not match the period of the dresser but easy to make the front panel with the nice wood once and experiment on your technique on the actual drawer with cheaper wood. I once heard "Carpenters are not Cabinet Makers but Cabinet Makers can do a carpenters job if they need the some extra money"

My father-in-law is a cabinet maker. Life is good. My new workbench has 6 drawers, all slide well, and have applied fronts on a box.

Add a center support or slides to make the drawers function better.

First, purpleheart is gorgeous wood. Good call. But tough to machine. Be sure to finish it with something to help it keep its color. Over time it will shift toward brown to some degree. Measure carefully. Patience. Use eyeballs. They are more accurate than you imagine. Sleep on it. Get some beeswax or paraffin to lube the slides. Apply liberally. Test fit. The wax will not only help things run smoothly, but will also tell you exactly where any fit-up problems are. Sleep on it again. If it doesn't work, try the following method: Adjust with 8 lb. maul or sledgehammer. ![]() Don't get frustrated. Looks like a peach in progress, and it should be beautiful when you get it all finished.

OK MAr, I hear what your saying, but I feel that you are still holding back a little. What I need for you to do is to get it all out....sort of like an emotional enema. Can you do that? I want to help you but I need you to help me help you.

Why don't you like Thorin and co.? Isn't that racist? Are Dwarves considered a race?
