Wrestling dropped from the Olympics!? - Page 2

Wrestling in the Olympics dates back even to ancient Greece before the business of the Olympics that we know today... This is bizarre to me that they would drop it, but I have no doubt that if there's a reason it's more about the money it brings in than any "violent" nature.

I'm pretty sure this has little to do with PC and anti-violence, I anticipate this is mostly about the money and TV ratings. Greco-Roman doesn't translate well at all to TV, neither does freestyle if we're being honest here, although I am surprised it was the first to get the axe.

Euro Soccer, FIFA World Cup, Winter Olympics and both X-Games are the only int'l competitions worth watching anyway

meh, times change. they should get rid of alot of the antiquated events as far as im concerned.

Curling is sweet! So is Horse Dancing (or whatever its called, Equine Ballet?)

They could always just not televise it if its an airtime ratings thing. Plenty of the Olympic games go un-televised. Dont take it away from those who strive for it. I am not a wrestling fan but i do enjoy that others enjoy it, i dont think taking some of the appeal out of someones sport or hobby is a shame.

Getting rid of wrestling seems very wrong. There's no way that synchronized swimming, the equestrian sports, or the pentatholon should be there ahead of a founding sport. That's ridiculous. I'm sure it's about ratings and money, but getting rid of wrestling isn't right.

And adding golf is dumb. They already have huge international events. They didn't need to add it. The only reason they would is trying to pull even more dollars out of NBC and other TV networks. It has no other reason to be there.
