Javelin, discus, shot put, all the running sprots ,OH! and don't forget the Merathon. All war skills and the entire reason behind the olympics. The greeks wanted to test the best warriors. pardon my spelling but I'm livid at the PC twits. shooting ,archery, all the weapon based sports are being phased out to present a non-violent olympic image. Screw them, I'd rather watch a guy put 10 rounds through a 1/2 inch circle then badmitten. Now wemon's beach volleyball is a different story for an entirely different reason. nuff said.

I can't believe that... The IOC should get rid of all those "sports" that can be opinion based (i.e. synchronized swimming, diving, gymnastics, figure skating, etc.) All of those may be nice to watch, but they are all scored on someone who thinks one particular person's move looked better than anothers. But wrestling? I have a feeling a bunch of NCAA athletic directors are going to stop having wrestling in their schools now.

And adding golf is dumb. They already have huge international events. They didn't need to add it. The only reason they would is trying to pull even more dollars out of NBC and other TV networks. It has no other reason to be there.
You forgot to add Race Walking in stupid sports category.

Funny thing to consider here. Modern Pentathalon was the sport that most folks expected not to make the cut, because it is deeply uninteresting to watch and doesn't have much of a world-wide following.

However, Juan Antonio Samaranch Jr., the son of the former IOC president, is vice president of the International Modern Pentathlon Union and a member of the IOC board.

You do the math.

Well if they're going to get rid of wrestling I demand they bring back a former olympic event to take it's place. Not some new version of badmitton.

I'm thinking it's time for the return of chariot racing.

They could always just not televise it if its an airtime ratings thing. Plenty of the Olympic games go un-televised. Dont take it away from those who strive for it. I am not a wrestling fan but i do enjoy that others enjoy it, i dont think taking some of the appeal out of someones sport or hobby is a shame.

If they weren't called The Olympic Games, I'd be all for it. However, due to the fact that I think that games are judged and sports have scores produced by the players, I can only hope that some of those things go away because I simply don't enjoy them.

Aldous Huxley would not be surprised.

Consider wrestling: a sport in which virtually nothing is consumed and the gear required to participate is simplistic and relatively durable. What good is a sport if its not consuming something for us to manufacture to replace?
