Staples to offer 3D printing

Just heard this on the morning news today here on the local channel though the article I'm posting is dated Dec 2012 (not the same source):

3D Printing Goes Prime Time As Staples To Offer “Easy 3D” Service | Singularity Hub

According to the news, the 3D replica can be recreated in wood, metal and carbon fiber!

Did I read correctly, the 3d printer uses paper instead of nylon type plastics? That would be really easy to refill...except the glue.

If they implement the same policy they have with photocopiers, this could be good.

ie.
They make the copy, they watch out for copyright.

You make the copy yourself, just give us your money, do your thing, and go.

ABS plastics... Nylon is on the horizon.

These 3d printers use paper layers, saturated with resin, to make a composite similar to fiberglass... Actually, more similar to phenolic.

It's a decent technology. The machines are very high maintenance. If the pricing is good, I would recommend it.

But the plastic extrusion printers are soooo goddamn cheap to print things with. It all depends on your end use.

I would love to make some carbon fiber grips or other small parts components for my personal markers.

Imagine the looks on the faces of some of the employees when the product is printed out:

I foresee a website dedicated to the messed up things people print...second thought, I'm off to register those domains lol
