Car Guys, Dropped My Auto

So basically I just punched it and started accelerating hard. It was fine for about 3 seconds then the car rev'd all the way. Now it slips hard like I have to be in 5k-6k redline just to get like 10mph. Fluid is clean though. I am thinking either clutch packs, torque converter, or oil pump. I wonder if anyone has heard of a auto going bad that quick.

Yep, blew through two rebuilds on a 700-R4 until I figured out that the TV cable was being set up for a TH-350 instead of the 700-R4. One thing though, I got really good a pulling a transmission and putting it back in.

Its a 1986 Mitsubishi Starion. The trans is a Jatco E4N71B (it says 4spd but I believe its 3speeds with a band OD gear being the 4th), it was supposed to have been rebuild like 2 PO's ago or like 15,000 miles or so. I also am 1000 miles into a mild engine rebuild/build. The question is mainly for curiosity sake because I sure as hell am not putting money into an auto. This car is going to be 5speed swapped.

a starquest!! what you need to do is ditch the mitsucheesy drivetrain entirely and replace it with some flavor of American V8 . . . and then the auto issue will be no thang

seriously

that is what you need to do

No, that's the lazy solution and I will have no part in it. Plus mine is a flatty Technica (digi dash), I am not losing that dash and I am not figuring out how to wire it. If I ever did a v8 swap it would be the toyota 1uz or the infinity q45 v8. If I did a swap at all it would probably be a 4g63/4 hybrid or a 2jz.

I am keeping the car with the stock motor, I just built it too. Later down the road I may put in a r154 or w58 trans but if you build the stock motor they are really nice.

*If* there is a vacuum modulator on the transmission (I don't know... I'm not a Mitsubishi guy) make sure it is functioning properly. When I did the transmission rebuilt on the old Ford van, the VM was damaged, and would not allow it to shift, unless you manually shifted it into 1st... As soon as you put it in any other gear the transmission would stop transmitting power.
