Money Pit's ALMOST closed up!

Well,
6 months after buying an 1870-something house in Neshanic Station, we finally have a move-in date! (in 2 weeks)

Whoohoo!

Exterior Grading for drainage, exterior siding, plaster wall work, sheetrocking the ceilings, plumbing, electrical, data/av wiring, 100+ year old wood floors in desperate need of some TLC.......not that it hasn't been a 'fun' way to spend every available minute for half a year....but it'll be nice to be DONE!

Still lots to do, but the slumlord has been given notice...so on the 31st of this year I'll either be in the new house, or homeless!

...and huge thanks to Hacker, DPrekel and MrWhiskers.......some of the best cheap labor a guy could ask for!!!

...just got done flipping through some of the before-and-after pictures....WHAT was I thinking ?!?!

As the owner of a similar 1870's house, let me advise you that you will never be "done" until you move away or die.

How about a pic of the happy homestead?

Oh, and tell Hacker we said "Hi, Family man!".

At any rate, congrats! As my wife & I will be embarking on a similar project in the next year or two (not a full renovation, just adding a master bedroom over the garage, bumping up the roof, converting a half-bath to a full bath, converting a full-bath to a half-bath, and expanding/renovating the kitchen), I'll gladly partake of any words of wisdom you have to share.

I should have a decent set of the before/after pics shortly.

In the mean-time....here's the best cheap sheetrocking labor that free beer can buy in NJ !!
(Hacker and DPrekel)

Wycke...it's an actual two weeks. Since I am the general contractor, ...and the general laborer...!!
There will still be a good bit to do, but most importantly.....No paintball guns were sold to finance this project!

It'll be good to at least be moved in........seems kind of silly to be paying a mortgage for all these months on what basically amounts to a big expensive PO box for Palmer's to ship to!

Good Luck in the new homestead. All the work is definately worth it.

(You almost don't need the Sheet rock machine from the looks of that picture )

Sure he does.. if he's paying them in beer! That seeling would look like the Big Dig tunnels if they didn't use the machine!

The ceilings ARE low, but Hack is standing on a pile of sheetrock as well.
We got up ONE panel before running out to get the panel-jack.......best money I ever spent !!

That day laborer on the left looks vaguely familiar! Hopefully those two didn't have too many beers before putting up the sheetrock. I mean you want your new home to last!

Panel lifters are worth their weight in gold when you're drywalling, especially ceilings.
