A friend of mine had a ~$1500 lens nicked from their baggage. There was no TSA inspection notice, which means they a) grabbed it during inspection and thus didn't leave a notice, or b) there was no inspection, and an X-ray screener tipped off a handler to snag it.
There are theft rings operating throughout the TSA and baggage handlers nationwide.

Yeah, normally I say get a Pelican case large enough to hold any valuables you need to check, put a piece of real steel inside along with said valuable and jump though the declaration hoops at the counter. Then you get to lock it with a real lock and TSA cannot open it.
But apparently this guy was swiping real steel too?!

I get a good laugh outta this one. I mean really, were any of you actually under the impression that the ramp rats were by and large, honest people?
They're the most likely cause of most theft, smuggling and general crime that takes place within your airports - including the drug trade.
