Vietnam Vet - Trip Help

Hey Guys,

My father in law is a retired USAF Vietnam Vet. He did air rescue and some other amazing things over there.. when he was just an admin/desk jockey. Long story short... he is nearing the end of his life. He has a terminal disease (thanks to Vietnam) that he has lived with his whole life and it seems his old age is finally unable to fight it like he used too.
His only dream has been to revisit the places he lost so many freinds and find some closure. The cost is something our family simply can not afford no matter how hard we try. I am trying to see if there are any groups that have programs for veterans like him. I would have to go with him because he cant go places alone and no one else in the family has any interest in going with him. His own son did not want to go. He has not been the nicest person in his life but in the last few years really came around to some extent and is a great grans father to my daughters. Do any of you know of any programs or things that might be able to help. I really want him to leave this world knowing he got to close out the biggest chunk of his life that has caused him so much pain over the years. As a veteran myself.. I can understand why he wants to visit that country again and I will do whatever I can to make it happen.

Thanks

The only assistance programs I know of are ones that get older vets to see their memorials. A local radio station (104.1) was raising funds for and supporting a program for WWII vets to go see their memorial in DC. There might be an offshoot that actually helps them get back to the location though.

I know where you live. Swing on over there and see what they have to say.

I drive past that place on I-10 every day.

I drive on Kolb every damn day. Prison rape would be better than that rather bumpy and slow road. ha

I am not much use on the VA side of things, but if you need any help with arranging a trip independently, I've been in Vietnam in the past and have several US based Vietnamese friends.

Vietnam has actually turned into a good country now BTW. Lots of really good nice people there.
