One thing about the Giants Causeway- Check the tide charts. First time I saw it was at high tide... and I was disappointed. About 90% of the columns are under water at high tide.
My only complaint about Ireland is in the last 8 years, the country has highly commercialized all of its heritage sites. It used to be in the 90s, and early 00s was most interesting sites, like castles, dolmens, ruins, etc, were just sitting in the middle of fields. You were free to explore as long as you didn't bother the sheep.
But little by little... fences were put up, and admissions were charged. Sometime very steep, justified by the building of massive audio/video complexes that were absurdly sterile and fake.
and I don't mind the money, but it limits you to "operation hours", and worst of all- They start blocking stuff they they think is "dangerous". ie LOTS of castles have entire sections blocked off because idiots walked off edges.
or the Cliffs of Moher. It wasnt that long ago that there was NO FENCE. But somebody fell off, and now its lost a tiny bit of its charm. I'd suggest people hike up to Sleave League instead of the Cliffs of Moher. Much less touristy.
