I got mine a few years back and my sparing I ended up doing 1v1, 1v2's all the way up to 1v7. Then at the end of that everyone that was there for sparing got in a bull ring and I ended up fighting 32 people back to back to back. For being in martial arts for so long an sticking to it as it was stated before. When it's tied around your waist. Everything and anything that you put into it over the years is made worth it all. Every last drop of sweat. Congrats on the acheavment!

My daughters' school does Brown & High-Brown to be eligible for Black.
(plus a certain number of tournaments outside the school itself)

Same kind of system that makes sure you want it & you're going to stick with it, only one level below.

Best of luck to you, Green Mtn!
Go kick some butt!

"Ready as I'm going to be." was as good as that ever became. Tests just within our school were actually enjoyable, if a bit long.

Good luck!
Prior to the sparing we do basics (kicks, punches, blocks) every one I have learned to date, in some pretty crazy and long combos, All of the forms up to this point, self defense drills, and board breaking. I have about 35 boards that I'll need to break and need to be able to break at least 3 at a time with both hands and both feet.

My wife is already a Black belt, has been since before the back injury. She told me she would like to see me do a 1 board suspended (only 1 side of the board held) break blindfolded as one of the ones I get to request.

So 6 months is enough to weed out douchebags/*******s? lol.

Serious question. So does training practice get harder in the next 6 months leading up to getting the belt?
(I'm 'black belt' in kendo, but we don't have belts or 2 tests for 1 rank. So just curious about the progression)

Ya know what I'd be interested to try... One board held on the top side by rope. Basically suspended by two ropes.

What type of boards are you using Pine or something else?

I remember doing something along the lines of 6-8 boards at once.

Most people don't know that skittish is the proper spelling for "jittery". Don't believe me... Look it up.

A few years ago I attended a ceremony where a good friend and a fellow "student" were testing for an advanced stage of the black belt within their particular discipline. After an exhibition that was much more impressive than any movie I had ever seen, I came away with a vast respect for just how bad *** a person trained at that level is and how hard it is to advance.

Best of luck to you.

I have done something similar, two 1x10 boards lightly held at the top by someone. One of my favorite breaks, also won me my only perfect tournement score. Also my dad was the holder.

This is the only Belt you test twice for where I train. Honestly it's been a couple years since anyone has tested for Black and I don't know. I am expecting it to get harder yes. If I remember correctly from the Wifes tests the first one focuses on proficiency, knowledge and physical endurance/ability and the second is more focused on "Mastery" of technique

Pine 1x10x12

One of the breaks I am considering as I do get to make requests, is having the holder hold one board Horizontally, with the board I intend to break standing freely vertically on that. I've seen it tried unsuccessfully once, it's all about speed and accuracy.
