The Nomad CNC Mill

Nomad Kickstarter page

Carbide 3D

Pretty cool, I stumbled across this. I like what they're trying to do. I'd like to do some simple stuff myself as a hobby. Their thing is to get hobbyists and other non-machinists into machining and such right out of the box. Cool Stuff.

I'd like to see it go beyond the kickstarter phase first, but that's just me.

I like it, but it doesn't say anywhere what the working area is. It seems like they are trying to make it as plug and play as possible though.

I think they listed the work area on their website. I'll check again. I like the plug and play aspect. I'm not very technical..

Edit: it's 8"x8"x3" accuracy is rated at 0.001(x) X 0.001(y) X 0.0001(z) hope that helps.

Well that explains the naming.

I'm a little bit confused about what the point of this is.

Sherline and Taig both already make sub $2500 Desktop CNC machines that are more capable. They are slightly less turn key, but if you can plug this into your computer and you can use a screwdriver you can build yourself a Sherline CNC machine for ~$2000 (In Canada). If I had the money I would have one already.

Bleh. Get a good 3D printer, mini mills are a waste of time.

Except 3D printed things suck, fantastic for prototyping which is why they really should go back to their old name of rapid prototyper.
