Metric System in America

Well, I'm going to try my hand at a poll.

What do you guys think about the metric system use in America?
And you Canadians and people from other countries are exempt...

It is already used here. Anyone who has a new car or buys tires should already be aquainted as well as anyone who has served in the military.

Metric is much simpler to use as almost everything is a multiple of 10.

Changing everything in the US to Metric would not be worth the cost though. I also like Fahrenheit over Celsius.

I mean, phase out the standard system. It is also used in the scientific community as well. The government maps I deal with use metric increments, except for miles and acres.

The metric system is more practical and all that jazz, but I'm just more at home with the american system. So, keep it.

The metric system is far better, but im so use to ours that its rough trying to figure it out

How long is 199cm? Without a calculator(or or some other way to quickly calculate) to convert that to inches I couldnt picture it. I understand the system but cant see it, know what I mean?

Roughly about 7 feet.

I understand your plight. However, I think that if they atarted educating children with it, then the transition would go smoother, but I dont see that happening soon.

Edit: Gah, I was wrong, 6.52887 feet.

I remember gas stations here in Nor. Cal trying that Metric stuff back in the 70's...WAY TOO MANY IDIOTS who complained to the workers they were not getting a gallon (never mind the fact all the pumps were LISTED as Liters)

But I am voting yes. Maybe we won't loose any more space ships if everyone was using the same measuring system?
