Any movie poster collectors here?

At a live auction tonight I managed to snag a box full of movie posters and other movie theater collectibles. Most of it not worth the paper they're printed on, but there are a few gems that would look very cool framed on a wall. Nothing in pristine collectible condition, but definitely man cave worthy. And all original, not reproductions.

I haven't finished going through the pile yet, but so far I've found...

Watership Down, 14" x 36" (I think they call this an Insert poster), very good condition.

Tommy, 14" x 36", a little rough but still cool. Might keep this one for myself.

and fittingly for the date of the auction, Cheech and Chong Up in Smoke, 14" x 36" in pretty good condition.

Now, if I sell some of these is it better to frame them or to leave them rolled? I'd had to spend $40-$80 on a frame and have people offering me $20.

Best off rolled, in one of those triangles or tubes to ship.

Frame is hard to ship and not damage not to mention the cost of framing it.

If you're selling them, keep them rolled.
Tubes are cheaper and more durable than any box that will fit a frame.
And 14x36 is far from your standard Wal-mart or craft store fare.

Figure I'll show them off a little now that I have some pictures...

Seriously, this one is nearly flawless.

The condition on this one nearly makes me cry.

Color is great on this one, too bad about the small tear on the bottom right.

The paper quality really went down between 1978 and 1983.

One of the few non-insert sized posters in the lot. And Disney to boot. Though kind of a "meh" movie, maybe some VW nut will want it. Shame about the discoloration on the top, it's otherwise in great shape.

One of the largest of the bunch. Too bad it's folded. Though a way better movie than the more recent abomination.

I don't think I'll ever get into collecting them but, I hope to get some myself in the future. My first job was working in a movie theater (the United Artists chain) and one thing I scored (but didn't treat it properly) was the Alien3 poster (curved alien 'baby' with nothing else but the title text).

Are all of those double-sided? Awesome that you got a Watership Down poster (read the book multiple times as a child and saw the movie but, not in theater).

Not planning on really starting a collection, the price was just too good for the pile. I knew I could get my money back just in "shipping and handling" on at least one poster and anything beyond that would be profit.

But there are a few I'm keeping.

All the pictured ones are single sided. There were a couple that were double sided, but pretty much one poster glued to the back of another. I think the small town theater these came from didn't have many of the larger frames but plenty of the 14x36 sized ones, so two of the posters in the bunch were quite likely larger posters that got cut down and glued to an old insert poster. I have Animal House glued to the back of The Manitou. And Dune glued to the back of the Dudley Moore/Eddy Murphy flop Best Defense. I'm keeping that one. Too beat up to sell, and the Dune side would look just great in my Nerd Cave.

One of my old friends is a movie poster and "stand up" collector, he particuarly likes the cardboard displays. He went to work work for and run a movie theater and got let go for...collecting movie posters and stand ups.
