<< proud to be an American!

Does anyone else think it's really cool to hit a moving target 130 miles away when only a button needs to be pushed and it happens?

AFAIK, they hit it with the first shot.

Shot 2 and 3 were supposedly on different Ships and wouldn't fire their missiles until after a long "disection" of what went wrong the first go. (Think week long dissection)

And Yes. this was much more of a warning shot to the Chinese than anything else.

Here's a video cbs4.com - Pentagon Says It Blasted Falling Satellite

It should be the third one that plays.

Lots of talk that this wasnt a " shoot it before it hits something" but more of a "we can defend ourselves from your missles"
well we gotta do something to boost self esteem after china pulled the same thing off earlier.

Though we did do it first back in the 1980's with (IIRC) the ASM-135 fired from an F-15. We just had to show we had that capability with our current technology

Yeah, the whole "toxic fuel" was just a logical-sounding reason to put a missile into it, show the world (especially China... remember when they shot down a satellite last year, and the big dust up in the news about that?) we could do it. I'd be far more impressed if they could consistently knock ICBMs out of the air, but I understand we gotta start somewhere.

There is a big difference between what china did, and what we did. About 400 miles, actually. The chinese satellite was destroyed at a much higher altitude, meaning the debris stayed in orbit much longer and remain a danger to other satellites ore returning orbiters.
I honestly think this has little to do with muscle flexing, and more to do with sensative equipment returning to earth outside our control.
