Is this the beginning of skynet?

I'm more worried that everytime I make a transaction with my credit card or debit card (or even checks) that the bank evaluates that transaction against every other purchase I make and everyone else in the WORLD to see if there is a security risk or legal risk.

Talk about Big Brother.

I find this phrase amusing:

"So far the device can simultaneously carry out 16 times more operations than a normal computer transistor."

BIG problem with that statement. A transistor doesn't carry out an operation. What it does is either block or allow current to flow from drain to source. It's an on/off switch. How that turns on or off depends on the transistor type.

The news is that they can make a very small transistor. Okay, so? Moore's law is going to take a leap now that they've discovered this new kind of transistor. They still can't build a true positronic matrix like in Star Trek that is capable of intelligent and autonomous thought. It can try and mimic it, yes, but actually emulate it? Nope. And I know that they never will be able to do it. It takes something MORE than just a neurological computer to make a human actually human. It takes a soul. Creating THAT is something we can NEVER do. Only God can do that.

Welcome to the Collective. Do not be afraid. We are our friends. Resistance is futile.

I'm all for this. Nano-machinery is one step closer to consciousness uploading which is one step closer to immortality. Plus, the zombies won't want to eat my brain if it's made out of computer chips.

More like the start of Gaia and Bioroid than Skynet.

It did go on to say that that now the function is either 0 or 1, which is on, off. So evidently, this thing can do 16 x 1 more operations, so it can do 16 but then when coupled with the other 4 just like it, they claim it can do 4 to the 16th power. I don't think a soul is necessary for thinking on the basis that we have a lot of souls out there that don't think.

The brits actually do have a Skynet, with autonomous drones... which, look like the flying HK machines from the terminator series.

They can't even find the "Any" key on a keyboard, let alone coming up with the concept of Skynet.
