| Yes sir it is. There is a technique called glass etching but a glassblower will tell you differently. Its "sandblasted" or just "blasted". Most of the blasting and etching are modern day interpretations of a technique called "graal" , which has been used for thousands of years to transfer image to glass. The guy who made the Benjamin sax likes to make imagery taken from money. Simply because it fascinates him. Heres another that he has done with that theme. ![]() ![]() Like I said I collect all things glass art. This is a marble made from "milliefiore". Its much like the second pipe pictured , in fact , some of the millies from the pipe pictured were made by this marble maker. Fun stuff. ![]()

| Endearingly quirky | Wow, how do they do that with the butterflies and trees? Is that painted on or is it in the glass?

| Back on topic , Heres a great lighter for pipes. Since I dont smoke alot of tobacco I had one of these as the cheap alternative to buying a really nice lighter. It worked great for about 2 years before jamming up on me. Like I said , I didnt get to use it that much since im more of a cigar fan , but would recommend it to anyone. | Endearingly quirky | Cool info there. Thanks! One thing to be careful of with torch lighters is to not burn the top of the briar. Keep it pointed into the bowl. GW, haven't seen you around in awhile. Didn't I sell you a Nightmare awhile back?

But its nice to see some familiar ones. I hope some members of the old board still post alot , it was a really fun and well run board. Oh and I only say "old board" because thats when I stopped posting was when the board switched over a couple years ago.

| Gah! Lighters for Pipes?!?!?! No Man use wooden match sticks. Let the Sulfur burn off so that it's just the wooden stick burning, then light your bowl... unless you really like those semi burned fuels in your mouth... ick E

| Endearingly quirky | I've done both and can't really tell the difference. Plus it's breezy here in the evenings when I sit on my back patio with my pipe, and matches don't work as well.

| Ultimate Battle Monkey Z | I like the taste of butane more than I like the taste of sulfur or burning pine. I have a Colibri pipe lighter too. Mine came with a little hidden tamp that I didn't find for nearly a year. Good lighter, never let me down. I have a Colibri Ambassador cigar lighter as one of my 3 lighters in rotation. I had a bit of trouble with it, but I was able to get it sussed out myself and do the adjustments that fixed it. I've been using it for years too.

| Wood, I am sorry for assuming, but after a few people have tried to sneak in this thread saying crap like, "I smoke other things in my pipes," etc. I just wanted to nip any potential trouble in the bud, so to speak. |

| Ultimate Battle Monkey Z | Actually, I don't think he does. I think he said that he's a glass collector, and wouldn't smoke anything out of them. Anyone smoke McClelland tobacco? They sell bulk to a lot of tobacconists. My custom blend is a good bit of the McClelland's Vanilla Black Cavendish. Probably a lot like the "Black Russian" that has been talked about. Also, any Latakia smokers? It kind of smells like dirty socks, but it smokes sooooo nice.
