| MCB Member | Grenade color for the WAR buff Since I'll be looking at these within the next 24 hrs, I need a little help. Does anyone know what the originol color of this type of grenade was? I want to make these as realistic as possible, once they are cleaned up. So pm or just post here. clones Later, Blackrain ![]()

| Generally, Brown, Black, Rust or OD. as i remember, that type of grenade got a simple coat of either black or brown rust-resistant paint before leaving the factory, usually brown. Later models switched to various shades of green, but primarily OD. Apparently the steel/iron that the shell was made of rusted quite easily though, so Rust was not an uncommon color either

| Point to be made here... I just got a notice from BATFE regarding the increasing reality of paintball and airsoft accessories that mimic real ordnance. I cannot forward or repost the e-mail as it came to me in through official channels. One set of pictures compare and contrast the Rap4 grenades with the Greek EM 1 grenade. From three feet you cannot tell the difference. Other sets show various paintball grenades alongside real grenades and again, from three feet you cannot tell what is real and what is not. The notice goes on to say basically if it looks like a grenade treat it like a grenade, call EOD. I am beginning to think we have gone too far in the MilSim aspect of our sport. Sometime soon someone is going to drop one of these at 7-11 on the way to a game and joe blow citizen is going to find it. EOD will be called, and we again have a article in the newspaper about paintball that may not reflect to well on our sport. (depending on the journalist writing it) Now don’t get me wrong, I will still wear camouflage utilities, assault vest, dark colored markers, and so on. Because form follows function, we are in simulated combat in the woods so we use similar gear to the military. But we also must be aware about public image too. How we are portrayed is more important as how we really are. My $0.02, your milage may vary.

| That's not a standard US military bursting munition (AKA: frag 'nade) Reminds me of WWI/II Italian, some German(as the potatoe masher wasn't the only type they made), French and Greek designs, not all of which came in OD, especially during war time.

| MCB Member | HMMMM maybe BATF should really start enforcing the orange tip rule. Be it airsoft or paintball. The guns are looking more realistic then ever. I'm sure there will be a few more dummies trying to hold up a store with a relistic marker. It's just nature of the beast. Either way there will be restrictions enforced sooner or later. I'm just waiting for BATF to step in and enforce rules. However Iam wondering if they are so concerned why is it allowed? Later, Blackrain

| "If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck...." Of course they're going to always err on the side of caution. If you assume something is safe and it isn't, it's only bad news. They have to assume a mock device (or just something unknown) is the real thing. It's just the society we live in. With all the bad crap happening in the world, can you blame them? After all... it could potentially be fatal.. I honestly don't think paintball is going to get that bad of a reputation because of milsim gear. Heck, a large market for it is actually law enforcement and military. Also, people have been holding up 711s for a long time with toy guns.... or even just a finger in the pocket. Honestly, if someone were to drop a mock grenade (paintball, airsoft or whatever) in a 711 and the bomb squad was called, would it honestly have a huge impact? There is such a huge fear about potential impact of things that I feel has no basis. It might have a small impact in that local area for a day or two because of a 3 minute segment on the local 11pm news... that's about it. About as much as if a plastic toy grenade was left. I feel something like this would have about as much impact on the sport as a whole as a pebble in the ocean. My $.02... probably not even worth that...

| As the owner of a RAP5 with the black muzzle, I must say that anyone who is running around in public with a milsim marker (or airsoft gun or capgun or whatever) probably deserves what they get. Is it really that hard to keep your gun in the case and leave your grenades in the car until you get somewhere that people are not going to freak out? "Ooops, I walked in to buy a pack of smokes and forgot I was holding my AT-14 officer! Just an honest mistake." Hell I don't even put on my camo shirt until I get to the field in case I need to stop and get gas. Leave 15 minutes earlier and suit up at the field! There's a reason many states have concealed carry laws but no open carry laws, and it's because a vast majority people are ignorant scaredies and will immediately flip out if they see anything remotely resembling a firearm (or knife for that matter), even if it's securely holstered or slung. Just 100 years ago, no one would think twice to see someone with a gun on their hip in half the country. I wonder if you let (or required) everyone to open carry, if anyone would be concerned? |

| MCB Member | In Boston there has been a run of error-ism. The same day of the light brite ATHF bomb scare some guys working at a local hospital actually made fake pipe bombs as a joke, and nothing happened to them. It strikes me that the real problem is the unknown...a few days after those incidents the cops here blew up a traffic counter just because it was a metal box with wires sticking out of it. It might be worse to make stuff that doesn't look like anything, if it looks real they'll probably think "oh this can't be real".
