Yep... the "Energy Wars" are coming, along with the "Water Wars" and the "Food Wars."

Heard something pretty interesting today - oil prices have doubled in the past couple of years, but consumption hasn't doubled....analysts figure at least 25% of the current price is fueled by speculators.

Perception is reality in this case - no much has happened to make prices jump as high as they are now....there are a lot of people making money while the rest of us suffer.

Maybe there wouldn't be food wars if the governments would stop subsidising ethanol.....hey lets take a concept that was tried and failed by the free market and legislate it, if it loses money we'll tax the **** out of the people to make up the difference!

Don't worry, that'll stop in the near future. We're very close to starting wide-scale commercial production of ethanol from a number of other sources-scrap lumber, algae, sweetgrass-hell, even garbage once plasma gassifiers get more widespread.

There was a show on last night....There is one state that has enough coal/shale...mixture that can be processed at $55.00 a barrel..they tried to start it up in the 1980's..but the oil companies dropped their prices $39.00 a barrel back then so these coal/shale process plants could not compete...there is one open plant in operation now...I wish I knew the state.....I only caught part of the show....Any way yes there is a way to produce at a lower cost...and the show said.....we have enough for 200 years....now who is screwing who....

The funny thing about oil prices going to astronomical rates is a thing called black death. It is when a good majority of the customers can`t afford it, and it makes a huge glut in the market which causes the prices to swing the other way. As arrogant as OPEC is they are really afraid of this.

Bingo, and I feel this exact thing coming. When the oil price bubble bursts it's going to burst big. I see an oil company folding, with a few closed gas stations.

I drive a suburban. If gas reaches $6.00 I'm buying a motorcycle and riding it year round.

I don't think gas will reach $6, the bottom will fall out long before that.

(of course this could be wishful thinking, but with commodities speculators, if you repeat something often enough you actually CAN make it happen)

This I agree with 100%

Everyone should own a gun and enough ammo to keep a group of armed thugs at bay till some real help can arrive...

By this I mean a good 200 rounds and enough food to last at least a week.. I believe this is even law in Switzerland??
