| Sword Cane Legality? Hey everyone. I have always had sort of a fascination with sword canes, as an aspect of novelty and self-defense. Logic behind this is, should you be in a situation required to defend yourself, you have two options against a knife-wielder. You can draw your sword, which in most logical circumstances should scare the attacker away on its own, or you can simply use the shaft of the cane to knock skulls. If the mugger has a gun, simply leave your blade sheathed, and there shouldn't be any motivation for the robber to shoot you unless that was his intention to start with. My question is this: I know the state I live in (Texas) has a maximum legal blade length of 5.5", so an actual "sword" cane would be illegal from the start. BUT, a knife company called Cold Steel manufactures a sword cane that conceals not a blade, per se, but a sharpened piece of steel with a square cross section. It's designed for poking, not slicing. My question is, would this qualify as a "sword cane," and thus be illegal? Here's a link. I know laws vary from state to state, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to get opinions here. Thanks! | I would say yes... And wouldnt count on the time to pull out something long and unweildy. Remember, a human can cover 12ft in less than a second.

| .:|Purification Admin|:. | Texas is so 'unique' you can probably use the accepted non concealed carry law to possess and use(if necessary) a cane gun/rifle over a large bladed weapon. Original remingon .44 cane guns are kinda pricey though. Not sure if anything modern exists.

| Seasoned Member | cold steel sucks btw.. manufactured in china.. I make this stuff by hand, charcoal and fire usually cane swords you buy are crappy material.. as they are really just a novelty, so if you are relying on it for self protection.. I'de say get one made for you by an actual blade crafter.. theres a pretty slick forum Dfoggknives.com that a lot of people would love to help you out on.. but yeah, its not legal to carry.. if it were, I'de opt for the claymore personally |

| There is no "concealment" when using a sword cane. If you have a cane there are only 3 reasons: 1. You are a Pimp. 2. You need a cane to help you walk. 3. You have a sword stuck in it. So, if you wanted to conceal a sword in a cane, you'd have to dress like Huggy Bear or work on limping around like Dr. House. Otherwise everybody is gonna know what you've got going on in that cane.

| I bet it makes a lusy umbrella and a lousy sword. Weapons are like phones... they are a great tool, but when you start stuffing them into things and adding on too many features, you loose the quality of the original product.

| THE ANTI-SHILL | Actually both my umbrella and cane are very well made. Got them in Europe like 20 years ago. However, they are more like giant sharp sticks than swords as the blades are not flat. |
