Sounds normal to me. Electric motorcycles are nothing new, they've been around forever. And it's only offering the same power as a 250cc bike, which isn't a huge amount.

Still, I'm real interested. It's about the same price as comparable 250cc bikes, but probably cheaper to run. I wouldn't buy one now because if it broke, there'd be nobody to fix it, but still, very cool.

EDIT: And look at the 40-mile range. Most other electric bikes offer a 200-ish range, but at a much slower speed.

Its real, Im just wondering what that battery pack costs.

Bikes have 1 big disadvantage when it comes to cars for being electrified... very little space for what are usually very bulky batteries.

Wonder how well that Lion cell is armored, wouldnt want to puncture that thing out in the woods in a wreck.

"Fastest acceleration in its class"

and i wonder what class that is?

i believe i'd pass on this one and go gas. maybe someday these will make it as technology progresses but i'd say they have a long while before they take over the market.

Fatest acceleration means that an electric motor has a linear tourqe "curve", unlike a gas motor which needs to rev up into the power band.

WHA?!?! A 250cc powerplant in a dirtbike is pretty darn powerful. I ride a 250cc 4-stroke and it'll wheelie out of control if you don't watch how you handle the throttle. 250cc's may not be a lot for a street bike but for dirtbikes that's about the most displacement that can be safely handled.

I know it's plenty powerful, I used to ride a 250cc Kawasaki. I'm just saying that, on the grand scheme of bikes, it's at the lower end.

Pretty much any class you can think of.

Sidenote: I'm sure their female model uses a rechargeable lithium-ion battery for something else, seeing as no self-respecting guy would touch that with a 10-foot pole...

sure it may do it against other classes. but what else is out there that would be in the same class as the Zero X?

look at all of the dirtbike classes you have for gassers... 50cc,80cc,250cc,450cc, etc....

what are the classes for electric dirtbikes? what would you base the classes on? voltage, motor size, battery???
