Wal-Mart Throwing Away Meat?

Alright i work in the meat department of my local Wal-Mart im going on a year in july. As soon as i start i was assigned to cutting open packages of meat product anywhere from oxtail to bacon. Almost every night we have around a box full of (throw aways) to put the meat into 50 gallon barrels. Then a company comes and picks the meat up every week to make dog food out of. Now everything that goes into those barrels is bad meat products. As a whole i don't see how wal-mart is making all that much money of there meat.
Kids poke holes, air gets into the packaging and ruins it. Most of all it expires. My question is. do you think this meat is going to waste? When i turn on the tv at night most of the time its fund raisers for children being poor yet we throw meat away everyday that expires and could still be used to some use other than dog food. The next day more meat goes into 50 gallon barrels.

are you sure it's still edible?

but besides that point, this is capitalism. The goal is maximum profit possible. selling expired meat to pet food production gives Wal-Mart an extra income whereas giving it away for free gets Wal-Mart nothing.

im not positive if they get a profit out of it, i believe they just pick it up for free and its out of wal-marts hair to deal with it

in which case, they're not paying for biohazard disposal... or even a extra dumpster.

fact of the matter is, though, that giving food to poor nations does nothing to actually help them. Their governments have mismanaged resources and usually have huge social problems...

I dont like wallmart, but if they have found a way to profit from their waste I say good for them. It would be a shame to waste food if it can be used, even for pets.

I"m sure Walmart has a steak in the dog food business that's taking the bad meat away. They've got there grubby little hands in everything. I don't miss working there.

I know a hippie fella who lives only off of what he finds in supermarket dumpsters. He doesn't pay a cent and most of the stuff is just a day old or slightly expired, which doesn't necessarily mean gone bad.

Rendering companys pay for the product. Dog food company's pay even more. We used to drop of tons of cow parts to rendering and dog food plants.

If I remember right they even payed small amount for fryer oil.
