| So who else has given Windows Vista RC1 a test drive? Downloaded RC1 the other day, tossed a spare drive in the laptop and installed. Overall, I have to say Im quite impressed. Very different form XP, some nice eye candy, but boy is it a memory hog. Sitting just at desktop fresh from install Im using up 50% system memory. (Thats 420 mb...) Laptop has been getting really hot as well, dont think it lets the hard drive slow down or throttl down the CPU (Sempron 2800) I think that tomorrow I will back up my main drive fully and then upgrade my XP install, to give it a full try. Anyone else giving it a go?

| The Brown Guy! | I will be putting Vista on my machine here shortly. My dad is running Vista on one of his machines, he said he really likes it. It supposedly gives you tools to monitor your system and all that goodness. Hopefully I work up the ambition to put that on here soon.

| Yeah it has tons of tools, but I wonder how many of them will make it into the "normal" versions since RC1 is the "ultimate" package.

| MS Vista (maybe Jan 2007) = Mac OS X (Mar 2001) Ok that's really not a fair comparision... I mean OS X is already up to 10.4.7 (with 10.5 coming out soon) So it should read MS Vista < Mac OS X Last edited by mike31c; 09-20-2006 at 04:25 AM. |

| .:|Purification Admin|:. | Haven't tried it yet, but I mostly use windowmaker(what OS X was designed to appear like for the most part) on slackware and fedora systems anymore. My desktop uses 400mb of RAM, but that is running outlook on wine, 7 firefox tabs, dockapps, a hcked gnome menu bar with weather and xmms. I might build a desktop and run Vista at work a bit this week...

| I gave away my Vista betas to a client's employee and haven't gotten it back yet. Azzy, from what you've seen so far is RC1 very stable? All the feedback I've heard echoes the memory and CPU hog label. |

| Havent crashed, but I also havent done much yet. It is a hog, but with all this eye candy, I dont see how it couldnt be. Give me a bit to put it on the lappy with my normal work programs and see what it does then Oh, you can download RC1 from MS's site if you need a new copy.

| Mod & Underwear Model | We've been testing/playing with it for about 2 releases now. So far RC1 is highly improved and more stable over the past beta versions we were able to get our hands on. It IS a total hog, although in earlier versions, MS said that was partly due to all the debugging and error trapping built into the beta code. The UI is HIGHLY changed, and is definately taking me some getting-used-to. I could see myself liking the UI soon though. My only big complaint so far is that the UI itself is such a hog. I believe the 3d version of the desktop can be disabled to aleviate some of that.....but I decided the more logical approach was to pop a new video card on my last purchase order!
