This is somethign that I have worked for since I was young and working with Masonic youth groups so I felt the need to share as MCB, much like my lodge, has become a bit of a home away from home.
congrats.

what is it?

Do you know where the holy grail is? Oh wait, that was the Templars.

I need to stop watching the History channel. I always get all those different "organizations" mixed up.

Who controls the British crown?
Who keeps the metric system down?
We do! We do!

Who leaves Atlantis off the maps?
Who keeps the Martians under wraps?
We do! We do!

Who holds back the electric car?
Who makes Steve Gutenberg a star?
We do! We do!

Who robs cave fish of their sight?
Who rigs every Oscar night?
We do! We do!

Seriously, though - congratulations!

Thats a very long and complex answer. Here is the short answer: Master of the Lodge is about the same as the president of the organization for that specific Lodge.

The Masons are the oldest surviving fraternal organization in the world. It's begining is shrouded in mystery and speculation, but the fact of the matter is that know one knows for sure. The two top theories are that the Masons were founded by either the Knights Templar or by the Ancient Stone Masons Guild. The real point is that Masonry is comprised of several organizations of like-minded people, these organizations are most often active in supporting their local community.

Lots of information can be found online or by contacting your states Grand Lodge, as each state in the USA has it's own autonomous Grand Lodge.
