I suppose I should mention this is what I am thinking when you mention mudding.

Here's the type of tires you should have on that beasty!

Or, if you want a more tame one, like this..

Dont go too overboard the higher lifts are largely just show. A 2.5inch will keep your tank from dragging for the most part.(you might also pick up a better skid plate for the tank, the 99s arent all that great stock) Just throw some mud tires on there, stay away from anything larger than 31s (co-op grip spurs, Goodyear wranglers, actualy check your local 4x4 shop they mak have soem take off 16"rims and tires for cheap, Ect, just dont go over 31 and get them as narrow as you can.) also cut out (or have someone cut out) your stock muffler (leave the cat for legal reasons) and replace it with some straight pipe (well it will have two bends in it) That 6 will pur like a kitten then, it should also make your acceleration more consistant. Switch to pure sinthetic oil. Run 91 or better octane as well. Warn makes a good all around winch, Id recomend the Tabor 9k by Warn (its the same winch they were selling as the warn 9k a few years back, part for part) and a winch mount.

Here is a picture, the yellow one is mine, white is my brothers, both are 06. Actualy the jeep is my daily driver, my normall off road rig (WIP) is a highly customised 1948 CJ2A (3b body, matkins frame, full floating 44 and internaly spined 31 up front, 231 even fire buick v6, the list goes on forever, Ill have to take and post a picture of it)

Thanks for the advice everybody. For now I am just going to enjoy it as is, but once I go through this set of tires, it's time to start looking at more goodies.

I'm just happy that I will have 4-wheel drive this winter. It will be so much better than my 2 wheel ranger, even as is.

I had the top off all day yesterday, I loved it.

i'll argue some points with you. granted, this will all depend on what and where you plan on going and doing with your vehicle. but there are still some holes in what you said, IMO.

1) lift: all in all, it depends on what you are planning on doing with the vehicle. if you plan on being a light wheeling, get it muddy, but no major trail riding, then yeah, a 2" lift is fine. but if you plan on doing some moderate mudding, or trail rides, then no, everything i've seen and would like to wheel, requires 35"'s and 2"-3" doesn't cut it in my book. yes, the person behind the wheel can do a lot with a little, but jeeps look great lifted.

2) tire: the size (height wise) depends on the lift. 31"'s are fine for light duty, as stated above, but not the width. that is the key, IMO. remember, it is a foot print, the wider you go, the wider that foot print will be and when dealing with terrain, you want to have it as wide as possible, especially when airing down the tires to get the greatest possible traction that your tires can give. tall skinny's are fine for the pavement and dirt roads, but when going off road, 8"-10" wide or even wider will get you to and out of more places than them skinny tires will.

3) winch: well, not much of a problem, but more towards overkill, IMO. a 9000lbs winch is a little over kill for a just a jeep. the general thought, or what i was taught to believe is take your vehicles weight, plus the stuff you plan on taking with you, and multiply that by 1.5. now, having more capacity is never a problem, but having less is. unless you would be planning on hauling out full size vehicles, get a smaller winch. it will save on weight, and the power needed to operate the winch.

but i'm sure like anything on this board, we could get into a debate on what is better, what to do, etc and so forth. i'm happy that another person has found wheeling in the great outdoors. just as long as you're having fun, its all good. hell, take a 2wd out there, and go to town!
