Paintball guns going to Iraq?

'Paintball Gun On Steroids' Goes To Iraq | Danger Room from Wired.com

The weapon, known as the FN303 or Individual Serviceman Non-Lethal System (ISNLS), fires a 6.5 gram projectile containing a mixture of paint and the brittle metal bismuth.
...a typical paintball is regulated at approximately 300-500 pounds per square inch, while the ISNLS is regulated at approximately 900 PSI.

I did not know that the PC/303 rounds are 6.5 grams.

That's almost double the mass of a normal paintball! Talk about ouch!

As for the operating pressure, it's a heavily modified 'Mag so 900psi doesn't surprise me. I seem to remember muzzle velocity being in the 450FPS range.

And the ball is a mix of paint and bismuth, that will leave a mark. I can't possibly imagine getting shot with one of these in a tender spot.

Tender spot or not, I'd still rather get shot with one of those than a 4-gram 5.56 NATO round travelling at 3100 fps.

FN's website lists muzzle velocity as 95-91 m/s which works out to 280-300 fps. It also lists the projectiles as 8.5 grams.

They are in use in my AO. They are pretty cool, but definitely a little 'roided out for our use.

Accuracy and range are probably much better due to the heavy projectile.
