My big peeve with credit cards is that all the local gas stations require you to pay AT THE PUMP when using a credit/debit card. They will not let you pay inside.

So, if I also want to get a coffee (and I always do), I must pay seperatly, which annoyes my wife. Plus, also when paying at the pump, it stops at $75, and you have to start over.

Now, I'd happily use cash, but who uses cash these days? Most cash stations have ATM's, but they all charge $2-3. If they were free, I'd gladly take out the cash if it saved them fees, but honestly I'm thinking of taking the train to work anyway

Looks like the stations may go back to two prices for gas like they did in the 70's; one for cash and one for credit.

It is not illegal but it is against the contracts that they sign with the CC companies. As difficult as it is I am using cash only for my gas purchases and just about anything else. It saves me money by not having the finance charge and the company I am doing business with the CC fees. It's not just the gas stations that get hit with the fee's. I work for a supermarket and it costs us tens of millions of dollars in transaction fees to accept credit cards but if we didn't the customers would only go somewhere that did. Whats worst is that if someone returns something they bought on a cc we get hit with the transaction fee again.

I wonder about debit cards, and those fees.

My bank gives me a "credit" if I use the card as a "credit card", because it supposedly saves the bank on CC fees.

Most retailers try to force you to use "debit" when using the debit-card, because it supposedly saves the retailer on CC fees. Something about "processing the signature", or crap like that.

Some places are using the "no signature credit method", which apparently saves everyone money, though you loose certain safety gaurentees?
