If he could, I might elect him... Ad a few zeros to the end there (maybe 9?), and with all his programs he wants to do, that might cover it.

i have question here

base on that news how will California rule work. their rules says no one can own assault rifles or any guns that are full auto or have huge clips of ammo. they will go in house and take from you. its happen to gun collectors too.

Bureau of Firearms - California Dept. of Justice - Office of the Attorney General
New California Firearms Legislation - Bureau of Firearms - California Dept. of Justice - Office of the Attorney General

that goes with bottom link
defined as assault weapons in California and are prohibited from entering this state under most normal circumstances. Additionally, machine guns and ammunition feeding devices with the capacity to accept greater that 10 rounds may not be transported into California.

Elenor Holmes-Norton, DC's rep to Congress, voiced her concerns about the ruleing. I will be paraphrasing here.
1)she is afraid of more street shootouts between thugs and citizens. Criminals are more skilled at shooting than a citizen who wants a gun"just to have it."

2) Criminals will not break into your home if you are in it. If they do, then ,well, they got the jump on you.

Found out that DC police, Capitol Hill police, private security personnell, are not allowed to bring their personal weapons into the city.

I donot know where to find info on this case, but the story has made the rounds on the radio and the water cooler.
A few days ago, found out about a case in DC back in '78 where 2 or 3 women were raped in thier home by a few guys. 2 women escaped to the 2nd floor and called the cops, and were told they will be there. They saw a car drive by the house and not stop. They called again, and was told the same. Things were quiet downstairs and they when down. And were raped. And the cops never showed up. They took the city to court for lack of protection, no response....The case eventually made it to the Supreme Court where it was decided that the cops are under no obligation to protect the citizens.
Cops are not obligated to protect, and you cannot own a firearm to protect. WTF? Probably that is why the drugs and killings in DC are a fact of life.

SCOTUS opinions (majority and dissent) here: http://www.scotusblog.com/wp/wp-cont.../06/07-290.pdf

I've also heard that "criminals are better with guns than citizens" thing a lot lately from non-thinking libs. Must be talking points from Sarah Brady or something. Nonsensical for a few reasons:
  • Handguns require instruction and practice for accuracy
  • Street thugs aren't particularly welcome at shooting ranges
  • Urban areas don't exactly lend themselves to target practice outside of shooting ranges
  • Even if criminals had somewhere to practice, they're usually not that inclined to do so
  • They're not that bright, and have the "I'm a man and I know how to use a piece, yo" attitude
  • They frequently get pointers from TV, movies, and music videos

There are obviously exceptions to all these rules, the most relevant one being street gangs that are increasingly well funded, organized, diciplined, and smart about training and effectiveness. But as a basic rule, the guy who gets a license for a gun, practices with the gun, and learns about it will be a better user of it than a guy who uses it for muggings and drive bys.

If she's really worried about citizens' abilities, D.C. should enact the following: anyone who wants a gun must also get a CC permit--and to do so, they must pass a mental health/criminal background check, a shooting class focused on self defensive use and the law on use of force, and a biannual test of shooting and book reading skills. None of this "tell us why you need it" crap, just a system like for getting a driving license.
