Metallica and King Diamond playing together at Ozzfest this year?

Best thing I've seen Metal-lickas do in years.

Is the new album available on Bit Torrent yet? Napster lives!

Review of Metallica Songs based on Youtube content

All Nightmare Long

This song isn’t bad. A good mix of tempo changes, although I don’t like the timing of the lead in. Good soloing which I was crossing my fingers would be there. My only real complaint is some of the spoken-word lyrics like “LUCK.RUNS.OUT!-AHH” and some of the tacky Hetfieldisms. Not terrible, but on the right track.

The Judas Kiss

I kind of like this track. Reminds me of something off of Load. No real complaints at all. Solo at 4:45 reminds me of something from Godsmack’s Awake album. One real note of importance is that this song doesn’t feature any of Hetfield’s OOOooo!’s and AHH!’s; at least that I remember. He stays within his limits vocally and it works.

The Unforgiven III

Could have done without the orchestral intro. I rather enjoy this song. It’s much better than I expected it to be. The solo around 5:45 is actually pretty okay in my opinion. A lot of people on Youtube complaining about this song, but I like it. Differing opinions I suppose. Another song where James stays within his limits vocally. And the lyrics are a little darker which I feel Metallica needs to stick with. Good track!

Suicide & Redemption (Instrumental)

Starts a little weak but picks up the pace decently. The weakness of Lars’ drumming creativity seems to show itself here; far too simple. The technicality of this song seems a little elementary; I think they could have tried harder. Maybe it’s the quality of the youtube recording, but I really don’t want to listen to all of the near 10 minutes this song has. Lars ruins it. Sorry Metallica, this one is a miss.

That Was Just Your Life

This song starts with a lot of potential and keeps my interest. This is what I expect from Metallica. Vocally good although I think the lyrics are a little lame. Parts of this song remind me of their older stuff which I think is good. The longer I listen, the more I like it. Good work on this one.

P.S. I lied, this song is excellent!

Cyanide

Youtube only features live versions, so I can’t judge it based on an album version. I rather enjoy the bass groove. I feel vocally the album will be better than old man Hetfield is live. Decent song.

The Day That Never Comes

This has been getting a lot of radio play. I like it. It’s good vocally and musically. Some die hard Metallica lovers may not like it, but I do. It’s got decent hooks and tries pretty hard to be old school. Reminds me a little of Orion in some spots.

My Apocalypse

Not bad. A good fast tune. Nothing amazing though. Just good. The end is kind of lame.

The End of the Line

I believe this song was referred to as “the new song” back when Metallica started leaking new stuff at shows. Good, strong track. This is easily one of the best tracks on the album. It sounds like old Metallica. Reminds me of Fuel for some reason. Not sure why. The lyrics at the end reminds me of Re-load, which I don’t hate.

Broken, Beat and Scarred

Audio quality on youtube is bad. Starts off kind of lame but salvages itself right away. Lars needs to try harder though. Hetfield is strong vocally. Sounds pretty good.

Overall opinion of the album based on youtube analysis:

I give it a 7 out of 10. I’m not going to rush to the store to buy it, but I’ll probably pick it up in a year or so when the price comes down. Some of the songs are really good, some are just good, and a some aren’t bad. It’s not St. Anger, but it’s not Master of Puppets either. I would stick this along side Re-load as an album most people will like but die-hard fans will find something to complain about.

Bottom line: Go buy it if you have the $15.

Just go to Project Playlist | Myspace Playlist | Create, Share Music Playlists | Music Playlist || Facebook Playlist, Tagworld, Stickam, Hi5, Gaia, Friendster, Xanga, Myspace Music Player, Myspace MP3 Player/Players, Facebook Music Playlist, Myspace Music Playl and type in Metallica and their Song Title. They have every song already.

I've listened to it, and there's 2-3 songs that are horrible but the rest are either good or really good. Nothing I'd consider great. However considering St. Anger this is a milestone of improvement in my opinion. So debating if I want to buy it or not.

listened to it this past weekend after downloading and I'll say this. Metallica is back BABY! The day that never comes, All nightmare long, My Apocalypse, The Unforgiven III etc all amazing songs highly reminiscent of the old Metallica from the Kill em All-The Black Album era.

I'm definitely going to buy this when it's released in stores around here (I've heard either the 12th since it got leaked or the 22nd but either way I'm buying it

James' voice might not have the alcohol and drug convictions but I see that as a positive step. his vocal cords given a rest from all the crap he was on will just get better and better.

This is the kind of stuff I'll go drop my hard earned money for let's hope this isn't just a flash in the pan before they go back to St. Anger style music (God that album was garbage)

Great review, but why are you referring to Load and Fuel as "old Metallica"
