Went to the shooting range.

I went to the local shooting range for the third time today. I don't own my own firearms so I rent rifles from Iron sights in Oceanside when I go there to shoot. My first time me and my friend rented 22s (because their ammo is cheap.), the second time we tried a .308 with a scope, then today we tried a Bushmaster .223 and a bolt action Rugar .44 magnum. Honestly, I hated the Bushmaster, the ammo seemed like it costs too much, felt all plasticy, the cocking was simple but seemed finicky, setting the rifle down makes the bolt close, lol. On the other hand, the bolt action Rugar .44 magnum was wonderful (although shooting them leaves funny red marks on your skin, I didn't notice until I left, lol.) The bolt was well polished and smooth on the Rugar, the .308 they had their didn't even compare. My only complaint with the Rugar was its trigger pull was kinda stiff. Anyways, I can't wait untill my next trip to the firing range I had a lot of fun. I probably won't get to go to a shooting range for awhile (except in Navy bootcamp in 8 weeks and by then I'll be hating life.)

Plasticy? Many small caliber firearms are that way nowadays. I own a Hi-Point 9mm Carbine (semi-auto) and it looks like the cheapest stamped out, plastic piece-o-junk gun out there (even the trigger is plastic!). But it NEVER jams (tried multiple ammunitions and read many reviews supporting this) and I can shoot a 2.5" group at 50 yards with ironsights. Those plasticy guns can be surprising.

Ruger trigger pulls are kind of stiff, at least from my experience. My Ruger Model 77 stainless .270 bolt-action has a pretty stiff pull as well as my dad's Ruger Model 1 .270 falling block, but I don't mind it.

I can't say much for .22s and .223s as I usually use a .270 or larger for target practice.

If you ever buy one for yourself I suggest a Ruger. The price/quality ratio is very nice.
You can always have the trigger lightened by a gunsmith.

Were you setting the Bushmaster on its left side? Thats where the bolt release resides. You should try out a lever action rifle if you haven't yet. I own and shoot all variations of guns but I've recently fallen in love with leveractions, they're just so simple, handy, and fun to shoot.

Here's my current favorite rifle:

It seems like you are doing something wrong if you hated the Bushmaster. Pretty much every AR I've expereinced has been quite fun. I have sort of a military rifle fetish though, and own little else in the long guns department.

I'm curious about this bolt action .44 Ruger though. I don't recall seing many bolt action rifles in a large pistol caliber. It sounds like a strange beast. Where was it leaving red marks? I have a Ruger Vaquero pistol in .44 magnum and it is quite satisfying to shoot, although ammo is expensive. I think I enjoy pistols more than rifles these days for a variety of reasons, so I would highly recommend getting a pistol into your hands sometime soon.

for anyone who owns a Ruger rifle, the Timmney triggers rock, set em high for hunting though, high is 3.5 lbs max, low is benchrest quick. Use the stock springs with the Timmney and you can get a 3.5lb glass break. Requires some smithing for the safety, and be sure it's set well enough for bolt action to cycle without an unintended fire.
Clark or Volsqaurten for the Mk series. I have a Clark on my mk1 that is sweet!

Our local shop got hit by the ATF for their FFL, and cant sell any guns. We intend on supporting them buy buying lots of ammo and using the range a bit more.

Sucks, i had every intention of walking out with a Ruger LCP.

Rugers are very nice when you work on them a bit for the trigger. My Police Service Six has a 1oz trigger in single action, and not too bad of a pull in double.

(The FFL got pulled for such horrible things as abbreviating "Pittsburgh" to "Pgh" and having a copy of a license where the height, which was correct when it was issued on teh young guy, but not when he was 21, was different than submitted.

This is the way they are trying to stop gun sales, not by banning, but making it impossible to legally transfer)

Azzy.,... does it surprise you especially when the form specifically states "Do Not Abbreviate"

I've had to rip up a couple myself and start over because I would abbreviate the county name. It's about paper work. It sucks, but if the guy behind the counter is paying attention he can nip it in the butt and get the buyer to fill out a new form.

Montco isn't a place!

A tee FFF is getting tough on things. Dealers without physical locations/storefronts, and audits of bookkeeping to pull them temp or perm are getting more common.

Wont matter soon if Biden gets in since he helped WRITE the AWB, and is a major grabber.

from what I understand they hit them for things from back in the early 90's, Im guessing with some people that have long not been working there.

going to be until December before we can buy things, and with the outcome of the election looking the way it does, Im thinking that just speculation will cause some prices of firearms to skyrocket.

Doesnt help that I cant find an LCP around here in stock, and the online ones are all $80 over the MSRP, plus shipping, tax, and transfer. Turns a $300 total gun into a $400 gun.
