Political question

Who here serves as an elected public official.

I ask this because I have seen more than a few talk with certainty about how the government should be run but I am curious as to who has any experience.

And for the record I have been a Township Supervisor for the last several years.

I usually find anyone with the right ideas is also smart enough to want to stay out of the game that is politics, expecially at a level higher than local.

I want to live in my new hometown a bit longer before I entertain the thought of running an office.

Not having done something doesn't preclude the possibility of knowing how to do it.

At least that's what I told my first gf...

The idea that running a government is somehow special and different, requiring experience and skills not obtainable by, say, working for a living . . . is just so darned cute.

On a federal level, their rules are very clearly written out in a non-esoteric form. Seeing as how we are not a dictatorship, but a represenative democracy, its is every citizen's duty to know exactly how government SHOULD be run.

Yet employers value experience and look for it weather it be work history, schooling and so forth.

I wasn't trying to state that experience is necessary, but I know that things are different when actually doing the job, and this is what I was curious about.

So.....who has ran for office and who serves?

I do not hold a postion in office...but I was just elected ....President Elect for a local builders association... This means for the first year I'm a vice president and the second year I will be the president. We are the only governmental affairs committee in Florida that meets every week and we are known to be on the forefront of local and state politics.
With this said...for the last two years I have been on the governmental affairs committee which closely works with the local county deptment heads, county commissioners, several divisions of state government and officals from two cities/towns we have in our county.

I can only see that local government can be changed if needed.....National government is broke...Needs to be fixed..but never will be...Too many hands in everyone's pocket.
But don't stop from trying....

I agree one hundred percent with you Jason518. It just gets under my skin when people especialy politicians talk about our Democracy, its not. The US government has always been a Republic where we choose (elect) a person to represent us. I always tell people to look it up in their old high school civics textbook.

OK, Sorry, I'll stop now.
