A small black hole might be useful. Hold it in magnetic containment, dump just enough hard to dispose of waste into it to keep it stable. Of course...things can go wrong then too.

For further reading...
Amazon.com: Earth: David Brin, Bruce Jensen: Books

And related in a round about way, wacky fun with matter colliders...
Amazon.com: Angels & Demons: Dan Brown: Books

There is the theory that if no matter is added, then the already present matter will eventually be lost due to energy conversion, causing the singularity to become unstable and eventually dissapate. Feed it, let it starve a bit, feed it, starve it, repeat. Perpetual universal garbage disposal and energy producer. If it doesn't get loose and kill us all. Of course that could just be a wacky SF theory

I hear it's due for a movie version pretty soon. I really can't wait, it's a MUCH more cinematic book than The Davinci Code was.

Worse case scenario I have to go back to my home planet and explain things.

Oh, I think radioactive waste as an energy byproduct is dangerous enough. Last thing I want is a bunch of doomsday machines being built that needs to be constantly kept in check.

One side, the group of scientists who want to keep the sigularity going.

Another side, an eco group (maybe eco-terrorist?) wanting to shut it down.

And the third side, the doomsday cult wanting to set the monster free!

I only have a highschool understanding of physics, but does this seem like a bad idea to anyone else???

Thoughts, insight??
I could not stop laughing at what you just said :P possibly the best wording for it I've heard so far..

definately does not seem like a wonderful plan.. "I had to know" is not that great an excuse..
