I tried calling and faxing my rep's office, no luck getting through all day. Anyone else have luck, even if you were for or against?

(My rep is Rep. Jack Murtha... I know, I know.....)

Not so lucky...just did a quick search...approx. 228 million people over 18 in the country...works out to almost $3,100 per adult.

Might need to check the math on that one.
305186613 United states citizens as of mid-2005
27.4% 0-19 years old
221565481 Adults

700,000,000,000/221565481=$3160 per adult

Edit:
Whoops, beat me to it!

Giving citizens 3 grand will do nothing. What is that maybe 6 moths of mortgage payments... Fat lot of good that will do when unemployment triples in the same time.

PLus that assumes that everyone pays taxes.. 40% of Americans dont. It would be another big fat welfare check to most people.

How about give that $70 billion back to the people who the government took it from in the first place? Times like this really show how much in need we are of a fair tax or even a flat tax.

I would go for a fair tax over a flat tax any day. Anything but giving the average lazy idiot their money back.

Could you imagine the amount of capital that would flow in if we had just a flat rate sales tax in this country? Businesses would be clamoring here like Cuban refugees on floating chevy trucks.

That would only last until some other country lowered theirs. That is how Ireland became the Tech and Medical leader in Europe.
