I'm wondering how they even got it in like that.... and how no one caught it later.

The PPSH isn't overpowered in video games...it's pretty realistic considering how brutally powerful that round really is. 7.62x25mm is a beast of a pistol cartridge...MUCH more powerful than a 9mm or .45ACP.

Not a problem in mags at all.... until you put it in the gun and rack the slide... then things get a little silly.

Plus it helps that they can send a cloud of the things downrange pretty easily

The Germans on the eastern front seemed to like the goats leg pretty well, they even rechambered some of them to 9x19.

"Bullet hose" sums it up pretty well.

Based on things I've read, it was actually .30 Mauser (what a C-96 fires). Since the 7.62x25 is a bottle-necked cartridge, you'd have to do some major reworking of the internals to get a 9mm Parabellum to function. .30 Mauser, though, is a pretty close fit...and almost as powerful (less than x25, but more than 9mm).

As for the original question, if there's one thing the Russians no how build resiliantly, it's weapons. On the Military Channel's "Weaponology" episode about the Spetznaz, they had footage of those guys doing pushups balancing on the rifle with it sitting only on the magazine...all their weight being held by the mag and the mag latch.

If they were doing pushups the mag well would do the supporting, the latch keeps it from coming out. Unless it is a stamped receiver... then 2 rails hold it IIRC.

I've fired a drum of full auto PPSH-41. It was the first SMG I ever fired. Nowhere nearly as nice as a Thompson but really fun.
