Urban Exploration

A friend of mine was reading about "Urban Explorers" and told me I should google it to see some of the photos. He was telling me this because I, living in Pittsbsurgh, have a slight fascination with everything related to the old steel towns that surround the city. I found some really interesting, and some very creepy discoveries. Just thought I would pass it on if any of you were bored.

taker easy,

J.T

I've seen lots done, done a tiny bit, but really, the suburbia I live in doesn't offer much. The property value here is so astronomical that nothing just sitts empty for more than a week.

there seems to be some pretty cool places around rochester here that i wanna check out, but industrialnewyork.com only lists general locations, not exact ones. so i sent them an email asking for some more specifics.

because honestly theres nothing to do around here

I used to visit the abandoned Benson's animal park, mostly to ride/skate on the walking paths. I had gone there as a small kid for a field trip while it was still open. Kind of erie because everything was still there except the animals and people. I wish I had taken pictures because I believe most of it has been torn down.

I'm glad that efforts are being made to turn it into a public park. Last I heard someone was going to build condos there. :P

Please note that urban exploring is usually considered trespassing (may or may not be in some cases), there may be dangerous stuff like asbestos, rusty nails, unstable structures, etc, and law enforcement will assume you're up to no good.

A great site is http://www.infiltration.org/ There's a lot from the Toronto area but there's also reviews of other urban explorations from Europe, US and *I think* Australia. Good site.

I wasn't trying to encourage the practice with this post, I would suggest that nobody participate in said activities. But I figured since people already have, it was interesting to see.

Sorry for the confusion..Do not try this anywhere!!

Here's an abandoned amusement park, right up the street from me. Whalom park, in Lunenburg, MA. Paul, Chaos, Jaan and I were talking about it on the way to last weeks pump game. It's in the early stages of being developed now. I had many fond summer memories at that park....it's creepy to see it in its dilapidated state.

Hell yeah, I love exploring areas like this. Back in my younger days we used to know a whole bunch of abandoned places that were great for renegade paintball. Not that I condone such activities mind you. I think this particular amusement park would be the best place ever to play paintball (too bad it's not in the US and not quite abandoned): Worse Theme Park Ever!

My personal holy grail of urban exploring would be to ride around Chernobyl with Elena ...

Check out the section "Land of the Wolves", the best photos are there. Just imagine, entire cities abandoned, and an amusement park that was abandoned before it ever opened.
