Remembrance Day - lest we forget

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields, the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below...

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields...

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields...

Lieutenant Colonel John Alexander McCrae (November 30, 1872 – January 28, 1918)

Has anyone seen Passchendaele yet?

I like to think that if I were born in another time, I could have fought in World War 2. After seeing Passchendaele though, I know I'm not man enough to have fought the war those men did between 1914 and 1918.

Agreed. I couldn't possibly imagine having to slog my way through No Man's Land like they did back in WWI.

Wearin' my poppy and stopping work at 11 for a bit.

Found a cool video... can't forget about our currently serving men and women...

Just got back from the War Memorial.

There was an ocean of people... Canada's last living WW I veteran passed the torch (via video) to a Canadian WW II veteran, who passed it to a Korea veteran, who passed it to a Peacekeeping veteran, who passed it to an Afghanistan veteran.

There was a 21 gun salute via howitzer. And 4 CF-18s flew overhead.

It was an amazing tribute. I am going to make it a yearly event.

Found this commercial for the new Poppy Quarter from the Royal Canadian Mint. Damn, is all I have to say...

I remember visiting the war memorial when I was in Ottawa back in May. Very impressive.

I've been watching History channel for most of the morning and that is a great commercial for the new coin.
