Repair shops rant!

While this is not I got screwed on repairs rant, but I still think I got bent over. just what do you guys think?

I dropped my car off Friday for an oil change to this place that just reopened with new owners and near my work. They have a huge sign out front with their specials advertising Oil change 19.95, brake jobs, transmission work etc. Hours 8-5

Had an appointment for Oil Change at 1PM dropped car off at 1130 told them I would get it after I got out of work at 4pm.

So I got a ride back to this shop, got there about 4:10, it looked dark but my car was right out front. My buddy who dropped me off said looks like its closed...I go yeah something must have happened, well I hope they left my keys in the car. I can pay them on Monday I guess...

Well they didn't!! I looked all over the place..nothing, so I called the phone number which was also on this huge sign.

The call went to the A/M with this message hours 8-4? closed Sat/Sun I go WTF? looking up at huge sign that said 8-5!

So I leave message, hey give me a call I kinda need my car and your closed, I have my bud drop me off at a store down the road cause he lives way out the other way from me and really didn't want to ask him to drive 50 miles out of the way to take me home.

So the wife has to come from her work to come get me, about 5 mins after I get picked up, and this is now about hour later.

The repair shop guy calls me from a restricted number.

Me:hey i went to get my car at 4 and your closed.
Him: yeah my hours are 8-4 and you didn't show up

Me: your sign says till 5
Him: The door says 4

Me: I read your big sign
Him: I haven't a chance to change that yet

Me: well I was going by your big sign
Him: I haven't changed that yet.

Me: I got there at 4:10
Him: I left at 4:10

Me: Well you really messed up my schedule and I have no car
Him: well my hours are 8-4

Me: I heard you, but your big sign says 5
Him: well I haven't had chance to change that yet

Me: I need to get my car I have no way to get to work
Him: well I am home already

Me: well I had to get another ride and I am not home yet! Can I get it tomorrow? I have no car for the weekend and I have to get to work on Monday.

Him: maybe my wife might go to town and she might be able to do it. It was 22 bucks with tax.

Me: Well maybe you should cut me a deal since you really kind of messed this all up. (and I was being nice)
Him: The hours are 8-4!

Me: yeah but your big sign out front says 8-5
Him: yeah but my A/M message says the hours are 8-4. and your not getting your car until it is paid in full.

Me: Dude I didn't call your A/M until after you had already closed!
Him: well the hours are posted on the door

Me: I didn't read your door, I read your big sign you know the one that brought me into the place to begin with? And besides I told you I would pick it up after 4 and you didn't say a word to me.
Him: your not getting your car until it paid for.

Me: Look I don't have a problem paying you, I am asking you for a discount because you messed this all up.
Him: The Hours are 8-4

Me: I got that but your the one that screwed this up and now I don't have a car and need to get yet another ride out there which is 20 more miles just because you didn't change the hours on your sign.

HIM: CLICK

So here I sit, No Car, No good way to get to work on Monday.

So I think I am right, and I plan on paying him, and even in full but I thought I was right in asking for some sort or discount just cause he is 100% at fault in my eyes.

Don't you have spare keys? Just go get your car and leave him 19.99 in pennies.

Heh, your mistake was trying to get a discount when he was holding all the cards (your car). Now you are screwed. On another note, who the heck leaves a car for an oil change? It should take at most ten minutes.

Why?
He didn't break any laws, although that is some people's solution to everything.

If the car is outside and you have spare keys, go and get it. Then on monday, go in and pay them the full amount owed. Then kindly inform the shop that you will never use there services ever again and that you will let everyone you know not to uses his services. As a Automotive Service Technician myself, I know that repeat business is the key to your success. As for an oil change only taking 10 minutes? Well I would rather avoid those places, I want more then a quick pull the drain plug, change the filter and grease any points that can be done. Please when it is up in the air please quickly check for any play in the suspension and have little look around. We have lots of people who drop there cars off for oil changes. They have stuff to do aswell and can't wait the 1/2 hour it takes a good shop to do the oil change.
