Very cool pictures. My grandfather has a german medal that was given to soldiers who survived that assault, also known as the frozen meat medal, or something like that.

He's been using it as a keychain for all these years. Thought it looked neat.

I would guess Russians are generally pretty used to the cold.

I heard about one of the actors getting cold feet. They shot him in the back.

rimshot. Anyway, what's the difference between a reenactment like this and when they portray such things for TV? Seriously... Why differentiate?

reenactors do it for the love of history. TV the people want to get paid or are getting paid as that is their job: to act. its as simple as that.

People doing things for something other than money?! There goes the old adage... Any other documented occurrences of this phenomenon?

I did reenactments like this down as Ft. Knox, KY. I was bow gunner on a Sheridan tank. All I can say was that it was an awesome experience. In one part we had to "button up" which means close the hatches. It was extremely hot since I sat right next to the transmission (read: pressed against) and when you combine that with the smoke pouring off the machine gun, burning your eyes and choking your breathing in that condensed space, it really gives you an appreciation of what our past generations endured. The Nat Geo people were there running around filming and I landed up being on TV for a split second. For as much film they shot it's amazing how much editing that is done in the end when it gets to the final production.
