| no, I'M sorry Join Date: Oct 2006 | Grown woman who used Myspace to coax depressed teen into suicide is convicted for...
Misdemeanor in hacking. ![]() Guilty verdicts in case of MySpace user's suicide - CNN.com "Drew was convicted of three counts of accessing protected computers without authorization to obtain information to inflict emotional distress on Meier." That's not even the same crime she committed. She made a fake account with a bunch of other younger girls, and used that fake account to pose as a boy to woo Meir. Then the "boy" dumped her and she committed suicide. Nowhere in there has anything to do with "accesing protected computers without authorization..." If anything it should've been conspiracy. That girl was taking depression pills when all this happened and the woman should have known better. She was a mom herself for crying out loud. |

They did charge her with conspiracy, but the jury found insufficient evidence of intent. Also, I think the "protected computers" are probably those belonging to MySpace. The "unauthorized" part was probably the result of her using a fake name/account in contravention of the site's rules for access to their site. Not sure, but I think that is it. Finally, that has got to be longest thread title we have seen here in a while. I did not even know you could go on for that many words in a title. |

I don't see why they couldn't have used causation. I mean the suicide was a direct and foreseeable result of this woman's actions...
