With the country facing a recession, let's raise the gas tax and exacerbate the problem...

One would think with lower traffic, that the roads would get less and tear.

Clearly high gas prices aren't the reason people are driving less so raising the price of fuel definatly wont be counter productive to the goal

Where do they find these people?

OKay, to play Devil's Advocate...

How many times have you had a tire and / or rim destroyed because of a pothole? I can remember two times off the top of my head. Probably cost me $100 a pop...no pun intended.

Sooooooo...keep gas taxes down and let the roads go to crap and have people spend more on fixing tires, suspensions etc, or raise taxes and keep the road somewhat decent with less wear and tear on the cars.

I honestly think one of the problems these days is that people can't see beyond their own noses. People need simplistic George W. Bush type answers, not real long term solutions.

Don't worry soon everyone will have a job working on repairing the roads and bridges....This should have been done years ago...Most bridges you drive across are rated as "Fail"....I won't get into the taxes bit...

What is to say that the funds already collected to maintain the roads actually get spent on that? Are they fenced in funds, or do our politicians generally raid those funds for their other pork projects. Also some states and or localities are better at fixing the roads than others.

How about we spend the money wasted on crap that helps no one on the roads and leave gas taxes where they are?

Utah has really good roads on average, they are usually fixed and maintained very well. If we can do it everyone can do it.

Are we going to see a new "New Deal" I would be totally fine if the money I pay for welfare put the welfare recipients on road gangs and construction crews repairing the infrastructure. They are getting susbisidized housing and free food and money right now, well didn't the people in the CCC get the same thing? Bring it back!
