So much is personal feel, but I love my Sig 226. Don't like the feel of Glocks, and the USP was out of my price range :-(

That sounds like aluminum cased Blazer ammo.

No one has mentioned it yet, but IMHO I would have to give serious consideration to the as issued Beretta.

Using this gun, as spec'd, as issued, should work "better" with the issue ammo since they are both gov spec'd to work together.

Using this gun will allow you access to armorors who are "experts" on this weapon and also will have all the spares that you could possibly break.

I would lend strong thought to the above points. And possibly just carry a set (or three) of aftermarket grips (like hogue's) and trijicon night sites. You'll be able to use these as trading fodder over there as well.

I'll discuss this with two of my close friends that were in the sandbox last year and get their input for you as well.

The Beretta's a good little gun if you HAVE to have a 9mm. If you don't like the Beretta I'd look into a H&K USP. They are good reliable guns. The Glock is another good choice.

Personally, I'd go for a .45 USP if you are allowed to use other calibers as long as you buy your own ammo.

Wow, now that is a Glock test. Looks like the USP .45 Compact couldn’t even stand up to the play sand. That is the best gun test I have seen yet.
Here is a just one part of his "test", he decided to throw his Glock off of a roof with a round chambered, to see if it will go off.

"No surprise, it didnt go off. The surprise/scare was when I went to shoot it. the first 3 shots went off fine. The 4th failed to lock into battery, so I had to wack it closed. 5th shot went off fine, but 6th failed to go into battery. I wacked it but it was stuck. I went and got the hammer and pounded the slide back and locked it open. Everything looks ok? I put the mag back in and close the slide on the next round. Works fine, goes bang. The following shot locked the frame out of battery again with the round half way in the chamber. I opent it up with the hammer again and field strip it to see what wrong. Trigger bar bent? frame bent? I'm sitting on the ground and pick up one of the rounds that was stuck and drop it inthe chamber - it wont fit. WTF? I putt it out and its flat on one side. Bullet case and all. I grap the others and they are the same. I guess it fell hard enough to smash all the rounds staggered on that side of the magazine.....Oh well, it still works."

hehehe
