RC pilots!

Help?

Just picked up a mini electro heli today for 10 bucks.. the lady couldnt get it to work. After looking everything over, I think I spy the issue... the battery charger was set for Lithium 2 cell packs and not 7 cell NiMH packs.

Before i go trying to get this thing to hover this evening.. what do the controls do? I know how each stick moves the thing, but there are these slides to the side and bottom of each axis.. what do they do?

Thanks!

Slides should be the trims for each channel. What heli did you get? I'm up to about 4, it's like crack or paintball.

if you don't know what trim tabs are and what they do, your most likely going to crash.

Azzy, do what all inexperienced pilots do: during flight say, "I wonder what this button does?"

Overheard on the Hindenburg, "Was ist dieses?"

If you are looking for a great indoor helicopter, I bought this one from radio shack a few weeks ago.

It is a lot of fun to fly and has a good battery life.

Its a mini Dragonfly. Some small chinese deal. If it wanst 10 bucks, i wouldnt pick it up. Learned my lesson how fun RC flying is and how expensive it was with a few beginner planes (got pretty good at those, but I started to try and fly them harder than they should be flown).

Ok these are trim tabs. unfortunatly, the instruction book for the thing mentions nothing about trim tabs, nor does it ever point them out. im guessing they are like a deadzone setup?

i hear you Azzy. it's better to ask before the crash then after. lol...

the trim tabs are used to fine tune each channel so the heli will fly straight. your best bet would be to find someone with experience that could trim it out for you.

i've never owned a R/C heli but i have been around them and i know they can be very tricky to say the least. i have flown a heli on a R/C simulator though and they aren't easy to fly.

If it's the same as the one I had they're neat but crappy (only really goes up and down :-) )

It started our whole heli craze though. If you like it and want one that actually is 4 channel you can get a Dynam Vortex for about $100. They're uber stable (coaxial) and true 4 channel. Great learner.

Now do the trim tabs start out centered? or to the extreme of one axis? I really dont want to start up the thing and the throttle trim is jacked up and it takes off out of control.

Avery - I'll keep that in mind.

Start with the trims in the center, see where it goes from there. On a normal heli you would check to see if the swashplate is level but I can't remember how these are set up (I don't think they have a swashplate).
