The problem is that the current crop of immigrants don't necessarily feel that way. It is the shameful reality that communities have cropped up within the US, indeed within US cities, where Americans and their ideas, customs and values are not welcome.

This flag incident offends me, but I have become accustomed to this type of anti-americanism inside America. Just last week my wife came home with news of yet another incident of a middle aged teacher being approached by a man just outside the elementary school where she works and told "This is not the way we dress here". Meaning, in this neighborhood outside of Detroit, normal school/business attire is not acceptable on a woman. I'll let you fill in the rest of the blanks. I am becomming increasingly convinmced that a highly unplesent situation is brewing in this country.

Now, I know that immigrants have historically been segregated out of racism or economics, but I think the shift is that there appear to be a growing number of people who flatout reject the American way of life and are insisting on their right to exist within the United States on their own terms and have no desire to become "American".

I believe what you're describing already has a label, its the "Free Rider Mentality"
I hate it too, but if it makes you feel any better, when my people come to rule the earth we'll place you on the spared list.

I hope this doesn't offend anyone, just trying to bring some levity to the forum

When a person who has chosen the US as their home places a nation other than the US above the US, they should pack up and leave. It is one thing if you are stationed someplace else, or are just temporarily living someplace, but when you have no intention of leaving…… get a clue.
Thamk you.
I was born in Sicily, I live in the U.S. therefore this is my home.

mailmanmike Since Monday! That's more than 4 hours though, so according to those cialis ads I should see my doctor.
tlane77 I think for a non-chemical chubby it's 6 hours before its time to see a doctor. So you should be good for another couple hours.
splattttttt I wasn't goin to google "chubbin" because I assumed it had to do with fat. The lard type, not the fun stuff. But what ever feelings Jeff's experiencing, then they must be of the fun like stuff...

My grandparents, save one, all came to this country legally around 1950, and you should here my grandfather(Denmark) go on about the illegals. I do not understand why the politicians have to walk on eggshells with this topic. While these illegals are protesting (with rights that are not legally theirs), round em up and deport them. I know it is easier said than done.

And you are very welcome. (Oh, and I fixed your post. )

The United States by nature IS a nation of immigrants. We welcome all who come here legally and become part of the whole.

Learning English, paying taxes, participating in voting and politics, and all the other things that are “American” used to be a goal and proudly worked at by immigrants. But for some reason it seems to be lost on a good many now days…. And that is sad. “I am an American!” used to be something all immigrants were proud to shout from the rooftops.

…. It is a sad day indeed. And even more sad when American Pride is almost labeled as a “bad” thing by some. Again, this has nothing to do with having pride in your heritage or country of birth. It has to do with being proud of the nation you have chosen to make your home, which in MY opinion should give immigrants (legal or illegal) MORE pride since it was a choice they made.

I fully understand this as well. I too wonder why politicians even care what illegal immigrants think. What will they do? Vote them out of office? They can’t vote. Will they pack up and leave? Not likely. So why do politicians give them any power?

I am all for protecting the rights of every person within the borders of the US though… but those rights only go so far. When you do something illegal you should also be held accountable, no matter if you are here visiting or live here. Illegal Immigrant means ILLEGAL. Illegal means against the law. But we can do nothing about it? I see a huge backlash coming in the US if the politicians don’t do the right thing. And I don’t see the actions of the protesting illegals as helping their “cause” any.

I am happy to note though that those who are standing up now are not getting labeled as anti-immigrant or racist as they were when this all began to be a topic of interest not long ago. I am also glad that the LEGAL immigrant population is standing up for the law as well.

"Born in East LA" ring a bell with anyone?

Seriously though, you've all pretty much nailed this on the head... you have people who want to live here but who don't want to be socially responsible (they probably don't want to be financially responsible either but if they get an official pay check they don't have a choice) Americans.

If you want the benefits you should do it full time.

I'm proud of my ethnicity (caucasion mutt) but I'm also proud of being an American... something these people need to get through their heads.

And one of the reasons they don't do a round up is that the NAACP would probably scream bloody murder...it's just that kind of world we live in.... when you see this kind of stuff alongside the two kids with guns thread, the tax boosted price of gas and all the other horse hockey that goes on in America... you have to wonder what's so good about it anyways (that's satire folks don't jump down my throat for that comment... it was used with sarcasm and critisism)

Wonder if we could tally up what the tax payers spend for stuff that goes to the illegals. Talking about things like their health care, and legal fines, and civil suit judgement awards, and all of that. Just tally it all up and send Fox a bill that says something like:

Dear Mexico,

We, the people and government of the United States of America regret to inform you that we have incurred a large debt; due in part to the increased number of your populace which have relocated illegaly within our boarders we regret to serve you with the following debt to be paid upon reciept.

Please send 860 billion US Dollars to

United States Treasury Department
1500 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
Washington, D.C. 20220

PS. We know when you recieve this so we'll be expecting it 7 days from then, and if we don't see payment by then, we'll be forced to send Joey "Pots'n Pans" and Vinny "The Bug" down there to collect.

Heck, if worse comes to worse they could maybe sell a pyramid on ebay or something

I'm waiting for the total Anti-American groups to come across the American group... and see what happens.

What I wouldn't give for a cow catcher on my truck and to be there...
