Oh my… we just got in our medical bills for my Wife’s surgery. I am glad we have health insurance, even if it is pretty crappy. Looks like we will be paying this off for quite some time. Mechanics and Doctors…. I sure picked the wrong profession.

I just paid off my daughter's birth. I have 80% coverage and it took me 15 months to pay off what was left. I cannot imagine going to the hospital without health insurance. It could financially devastate you for life. My dad ended up owing $36,000 after his back to back heart attacks, and he has pretty decent insurance. |

I don't know how they can expect people to pay for any type of medical service, oh wait maybe the $30 ace bandage or the $20 gauze. My wifes gall bladder surgery was like $16,000 and thank god my insurance covered almost all of it, I had to pay a little over $2000 including the deductible. And my insurance isn't even that good, at least for the small stuff like doctors visits or meds since the deductible is fairlly large but for any major stuff it isn't too bad. Allthough the hospitals take payments it could still screw you to have to pay off $10-20,000 over time, not many of us need any more bills. And I tried to tell her that was her birthday and Christmas present for the next few years. Some reason she didn't find that funny? I tell you the woman has no sense of humor. |

I am one lucky SOB I'll tell you that right now. With all the problems facing parents with premie babies you would NOT want to see our med bills. I am lucky that my crap insurance through my former emplyer covered most of it and since she quilified the state picked up the rest. This is VERY good news becouse just sifting through some of the statements from the insurance company before she even left the first hospital ( 86 days there in the NICU) it had already topped 3million. I stopped adding it up after that. One month alone was over 800K. GLad I dont have to pay that back! On the down side however she will be seeing Doctors the rest of her life and once I finish school and get back into the workforce well then I get to pay, but shes worth every penny.

my hospital bills when i broke my neck were well over $500k. i was a minor so my dads' insurance covered me. i saw a few people in rehab that didn't have insurance and it really sucked bad for them. you don't want to be without insurance cause you never know what could happen to you.

I feel ya. My son was born 10 weeks early and stayed in the NICU for 6 weeks. The care they receive is great but expensive, but as you said, they are worth every penny. Quote:

Part of the reason why Hospitals are so expensive, is that they're required by law to treat you regardless of your ability to pay. So the ones that can pay have to cover the ones that can't. Illegals are, in fact, bleeding California hospitals dry with costs. Isn't socialism wonderful? Go to an emergency room sometime for a real eyeopener - it's filled with people with the sniffles, because they know they don't have to pay for it. When I shattered my Knee a couple of years ago, I was the only person seriously in need of "emergency" medicine at the ER - everybody else had a cold, etc. And most had the look of Poverty/illegals.
