Work Question....

Now if you were told to go through a set of drawings and back check the drawings against previous markups to make sure that the corrections were made knowing that your boss didn't want to waste time finding those old (and any new errors) would you:

1. Mark the drawings with changes you see that are needed

2. Not mark the drawings and hope that two weeks from now when the sets come back from team review that you can remember the changes that need to be made.

3. Or just say screw it, and not back check the drawings.

Seriously, I marked up these drawings yesterday (Took me about 4 hrs to do) and this morning my drafter got upset because she doesn't want to print a fresh set fro my boss to look at....why the hell would he need a fresh set? "But I told you not to mark up the drawings for little things" SO I jus tignore the problems... I have to go through this everytime we do a drwaing submittal... it drives me absolutely insane.

Nothing against you Azzy... but I will never understand a lot of the drafters out there.

No offence taken

Its not just a draftsman thing.. it's an office thing. i have to deal with the same sort of stuff all the time.

(Ive always thought it's better to have someone in house find a mistake, and spend time one it, than to have teh client find it, and make you spend time one it )

I hear you.... and whats worse is "the team" is actually a competing engineering firm that wants our job real bad...they are a total pia when it comes to review. So finding stuff like non centered text in the title block and other nit pick crap is real important before they see it.

Yeah ... our client is the former sight owner (they kept the environmental liability when they sold the property) the other engineering firm has been hired by the new property owner.... they were hired to do certain field work and then shifted into oversight. At the first team meeting they sat through the meeting and didn't say a word... at the end My boss politely asked what they would be doing with the project..they flat out told him they would be going over our work and trying to take it from us...very ethical.

It has made for some very fun days on this project.

well at least they were honest about it

uhm your draftsperson needs to be reminded that she has to do it because the boss wants it done and that changes no matter how small will be marked and she should try and catch them and if she doesn;t like it she is free to leave because other people would be grateful to have her job and if she keeps up with the poor attitude that she will be asked to leave and replaced

so it's your choice - do you want to be part of the team and or do you wanted to be traded to unemployement. go home and think about it and let us know tomorrow.

I'm still wondering why a former property owner would keep up the environmental liability of a property, since they don't own it anymore. Are they charging the new property owners some sort of service fee, and acting almost as a form of insurance for the new company? I wouldn't want to be liable for property I had nothing to do with anymore, if I could help it.

The ins and outs and technicalities of the business world confuse the heck out of me.

It happens a lot when the property in question made the news every week for several years because of environmental problems and major plant disasters. If you wanted to sell it you'd have to either sell it for really cheap or take on the responsibilty...and as a buyer it's actually cheaper in the long run to buy it with the previous owner maintaining the evironmental responsibility..cause you never know what youa re going to find burried out back.

you made the mess - you clean it up

except when the state makes the mess - then it is a whole different ball game
