MORRISTOWN, N.J. (AP) - A New Jersey man whose driver's license has been suspended 78 times has pleaded guilty to his 15th drunken-driving offense. Shaun Campbell of East Rutherford told a judge Tuesday that he had been drinking "quite a bit" of beer when he crashed his SUV head-on into a pickup in April. The truck's occupants, a man and his 4-year-old daughter, were not seriously hurt. The 40-year-old Campbell's blood-alcohol level was .288 percent, more than triple the state's legal limit. Authorities say Campbell's license has been suspended 78 times in 22 years. He still faces drunken-driving charges in two other New Jersey cities. Prosecutors are seeking a maximum prison term of nearly three years at Campbell's sentencing in August. He will lose his license for at least 10 more years.

Christ in PA they would have made him install a breathalizer in his car connected to the ignition... he needs to be sober for the car to run. And yes, this guy won't ever learn, lock his *** up before he kills someone. I'm sure they could throw the book at him at this point beyond just the DWI charge... public nuisance, public endangerment.. I'm sure a really feisty city attorney could go for something like attempted manslaughter if you could get him to say he didn't care about other drivers. Lock his butt up. E

Impressive, that's 2.3 suspensions in a year since age 16...I'm guessing he must be in an industry where he has to drive, so he keeps getting his suspension rescinded or shortened. Also, sounds like he's probably an alcoholic, so at least he may still be semi-functional even if over the legal limit...explains how he hasn't killed himself or someone else yet, since no one that stupid deserves to be that lucky.

Lock this guy up. There's no reason to let someone like that stay free amongst the rest of us.

My mother works for the Intoxicated Drivers Resource Center in NJ. She says, without giving specifics that would get her in trouble, that most people are only 1 time offenders and usually never get sent back through the programs. Someone like him should have not even been able to own a car at that point, let alone been able to drive it ANYWHERE. They would block him from registering any vehicles in the state & would more than likely take his current vehicle.
