Is that at a bank?
If so, the man with the gun is probabily in a Heap of Trouble. If anything is wrong with the kid, both the gunner and his place of work could most likely get sued. Same with any "trauma" the mommie might be suffering.

Unless of course it's in TX!!!

Considering once the guy pulled the gun out and he ran shotting him in the back... unneeded risk with a women and a baby there if you ask me.

I think they are fine... the situation was not handled properly at all... but.. I think the kid will be OK.

I hope the mom kicks someones *** over it tho.

Were they being robbed or something?

Meh, if it would have turned out bad (mother and baby being killed or used as hostages) it would have been no good either. I bet from the shooters point of view with adrenalin kicking in on overdrive and total tunnel vision, he had oodles of room to shoot past the kid. With more tellers like that we wouldn't have robberies.

The shooter is over on gunsnet forums under the name RooftopVoter. He said there were a good 3+ feet between him and the kid, the camera angle makes it seem closer. It was at a hotel lobby and the shooter didn't get in any trouble, pretty clear case of self defense. If a bad guy comes at you wielding a gun, you are allowed to use deadly force to defend yourself in most states.

Just curious, but how would you naysayers have handled it properly? In my opinion, if someone comes at you with a gun, their intentions are obviously bad. They could simply just take the money and leave, or they could execute everyone there to leave no witnesses (which has happened all too many times). It was not the ideal situation with the woman and baby there, but real life situations like that are never ideal anyway. It turned out good in the end though, the bad guy went to jail, the mother a thanked the shooter and the clerk woman wants shooting lessons from him.

Wasn't the dirtbag already running away though when this guy started shooting?
Well at any rate, I hope the dirtbag got a couple 9mm slugs in the poop-chute for his troubles...

He ran when he saw the gun. He was still a threat though, nothing stopping him from shooting over his shoulder as he ran out . If he dropped the gun and ran it would've been wrong to shoot him, but as long as he has the gun he could still whip around and kill someone. Most defense classes teach you to shoot until the threat is eliminated.

It looks like the "robber" took the first shot and missed. You can sortof see the shot happen, and everyone's reaction to it. I feel like the guy behind the counter did the right thing. You take a shot at me with two women and a baby around, and I've got a pistol to back it up, you'd better believe there'll be return fire if I'm able!! Kudos to him. That situation could've ended a heck of a lot worse than it did if he'd not reacted with extreme force. You retaliate in an overwhelming way and you'll win in most situations.

That's probably why I'm not a police officer, though...

I get a little sqeamish seeing that little girl so close (3' is still close) but it nonetheless gives me a warm fuzzy feeling to see the good guy win for a change. Put in the same situation, I may very well have done the same thing who knows.
